Expert Toyota maintenance and repair from ASE-certified technicians at ExperTec Automotive Costa Mesa.

Voted #1 Best of Orange County 2026 - 10 years in a row

Expert Toyota Service from Certified Technicians

Toyotas have a reputation for running forever, and plenty of Costa Mesa Camrys, Corollas and RAV4s prove it every day on Newport Blvd. Reaching 200,000 miles is not luck, though. It comes from steady maintenance done on time, especially when most trips are short errands to South Coast Plaza or quick runs to the beach.

ExperTec Automotive’s ASE-certified technicians follow Toyota’s 5,000-mile inspection rhythm and 10,000-mile synthetic oil intervals, adjusting for severe driving when it applies. We service everything from the Prius and Camry Hybrid to the Highlander, Sienna, Tacoma and 4Runner, using dealer-level scan tools and OEM-quality parts.

Salt air from Newport Beach can corrode brake hardware and exhaust components, and catalytic converter theft remains a real concern for Prius and truck owners, so we watch for both. Just off the 55 near the OC Fair grounds, we bring 30+ years in Orange County, 10 years voted OC’s best auto repair and a 3yr/36k nationwide warranty.

Toyota Regular Maintenance

Toyota uses a fixed-interval schedule built around 5,000-mile steps rather than an oil life monitor. Most current models that use 0W-16 or 0W-20 synthetic oil call for an oil and filter change every 10,000 miles or 12 months, with a tire rotation and multipoint inspection at each 5,000-mile point in between. Bigger services at about 30,000 and 60,000 miles add air and cabin filter replacement plus deeper inspections of brakes, drive shafts and fluids, while spark plugs and coolant follow long intervals that vary by model/engine. The dashboard “Maint Reqd” light is simply a reminder timed to these intervals. Toyota’s special operating conditions, such as towing, frequent short trips, extended idling and dusty roads, call for more frequent service, which fits many Orange County drivers.

Factory Guideline Maintenance Schedules

Upon completion of the standard maintenance tasks we provide an additional 30-point inspection to make sure that all components in your Toyota are up to date and working well.

Common Toyota Issues We See in Costa Mesa — and How We Fix Them

At ExperTec Automotive, we’ve been repairing Toyota vehicles in Orange County for over 30 years. Even well-built Toyota models develop specific problems as they age, and 55 Freeway commutes and coastal salt air add to the wear. Our Costa Mesa technicians diagnose these issues quickly, follow Toyota factory repair procedures and use quality parts you can trust.

V6 Water Pump Leaks (2GR-FE)

The widely used 3.5L 2GR-FE V6, found in many Camry, Avalon, RAV4, Highlander and Sienna models, is known for water pump seepage at higher mileage, often around 80,000 to 120,000 miles but varying by engine. Look for pink coolant crust near the pump, a sweet smell or slow coolant loss. We pressure-test the system and replace the pump and drive belt.

Oil Consumption on the 2.4L 2AZ-FE

Some 2.4L 2AZ-FE four-cylinder engines, especially in roughly 2007 to 2009 Camry, RAV4, Corolla and Highlander models, were widely reported to burn excessive oil due to piston ring problems. Symptoms include a low oil level between changes and, eventually, fouled plugs or a check engine light. We perform an oil consumption test, check for leaks and PCV faults and lay out repair options.

VVT-i Oil Line Leaks on Older V6 Engines

Some earlier 2GR-FE V6 engines, roughly 2005 to 2009, used a VVT-i oil feed line with a rubber section that could crack and leak oil quickly, risking engine damage if ignored. Many have already been updated with an all-metal line. We inspect the line on any older V6 Toyota we see and replace an original rubber-section line with the updated part.

Prius EGR Clogging and Head Gaskets

Third-generation Prius models, roughly 2010 to 2015, are known for EGR cooler and EGR passage clogging with carbon, which can lead to misfires, rough running and, in many cases, head gasket failure with coolant loss. We clean or replace the EGR valve, cooler and intake passages proactively, often around 100,000 to 150,000 miles, and pressure-test the cooling system for early gasket leaks.

Hybrid Battery and Cooling Fan

Toyota hybrid batteries are durable but age, especially in heat, showing up as reduced fuel economy, a battery that charges and depletes quickly or warning lights. A clogged battery cooling fan or filter, common in pet-owner and dusty cars, speeds that aging. We read individual block voltages with dealer-level scan tools, clean the cooling system and explain repair or replacement options.

Secondary Air Injection Faults (Tundra, Sequoia)

The 5.7L V8 in many Tundra, Sequoia and Land Cruiser models can suffer secondary air injection pump or valve failure, often after moisture gets into the system. It usually triggers a check engine light and can put the truck into reduced-power mode. We diagnose the specific pump, valve or wiring fault and repair it with OEM-quality parts so the truck runs and passes smog.

For most newer models using 0W-16 or 0W-20 synthetic oil under normal conditions, yes. If you make lots of short trips, sit in heavy traffic, tow or drive on dusty roads, Toyota’s special operating conditions call for oil changes about every 5,000 miles, which fits many Orange County drivers.
