Huntington Beach Star Certified Smog Check Center
Expertec Automotive is a state certified Smog center for Testing and Repair. We are also authorized by the state to carry out repairs under the CAP repair assistance program.
What is a Star Certified Station?
The Star program is a state-initiated program which monitors the performance of Smog testing stations and sets standards for stations and inspectors. Certified stations meet higher performance standards. Your DMV notice will state whether your vehicle must be tested at a certified station.
What is the CAP?
The CAP repair assistance program helps low income individuals ensure their car remains in compliance with California emissions standards. The state provides recipients of this program $500 for emissions related repairs to their vehicle, to see if you qualify for assistance please visit the Consumer Assistance Program – Bureau of Automotive Repairs website.
The Smog Check
Every vehicle over 8 years old requires a smog check every other year, a check is also required if you sell a car over 4 years old or are registering an out of state car in California for the first time. The DMV will indicate on your registration renewal form whether a Smog Check is required or not.
The test is designed to measure the amount of pollutants that your car is producing to make sure that it falls within California’s emissions standards. The test itself will consist of;
- A Visual inspection of the exhaust system
- A functional inspection of the Check Engine Light, Ignition System, Exhaust Gas Recirculation System, Fuel Evaporation System and the Gas Cap
- A Functional Inspection of the Diagnostic Systems
- Tailpipe Emissions Test
