Voted #1 Best of Orange County 2026 - 10 years in a row

Expert Porsche Service from Certified Technicians

A Porsche in Costa Mesa might spend Tuesday on a short errand to South Coast Plaza and Saturday carving up the coast toward Newport Beach. That mix of brief trips and spirited drives asks a lot of oil, brakes and cooling systems, and it rewards owners who stay ahead of maintenance.

ExperTec Automotive’s ASE-certified technicians service the full range, including the 911, 718 Boxster and Cayman, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera and the all-electric Taycan. We use dealer-level scan tools to read Porsche control modules, reset service intervals and run guided tests, and we install OEM-quality parts that match original specifications.

Salt air along the Newport Blvd corridor can corrode brake hardware and underbody fasteners, so our inspections cover more than the checklist. Our shop sits between the 55 and the OC Fair grounds, and after 30+ years in Orange County and a decade as OC’s best auto repair, we back every job with a 3yr/36k nationwide warranty.

Porsche Regular Maintenance

Porsche uses fixed maintenance intervals based on mileage and time, and the instrument cluster displays a service indicator when work is due. For most recent US models, an oil change is called for about every 10,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first, and the schedule alternates between an Intermediate Maintenance and a more comprehensive Maintenance service at regular mileage steps, typically around 20,000 and 40,000 miles; exact intervals vary by model/engine. Time-based items stand apart from mileage: brake fluid is due about every 2 years, and spark plugs, filters and PDK fluid follow their own longer intervals. Electric models like the Taycan follow a mostly time-based inspection schedule. Many enthusiasts shorten oil intervals for track use or lots of short trips.

Factory Guideline Maintenance Schedules

Upon completion of the standard maintenance tasks we provide an additional 30-point inspection to make sure that all components in your Porsche are up to date and working well.

  • Read fault memory and reset service indicator
  • Brake fluid replacement every 2 years

Major Maintenance

  • Engine air filter and cabin/particle filter
  • Drive belt inspection or replacement

Common Porsche Issues We See in Costa Mesa — and How We Fix Them

At ExperTec Automotive, we’ve been repairing Porsche vehicles in Orange County for over 30 years. Even well-built Porsche models develop specific problems as they age, and 55 Freeway commutes and coastal salt air add to the wear. Our Costa Mesa technicians diagnose these issues quickly, follow Porsche factory repair procedures and use quality parts you can trust.

IMS Bearing Failure (996, Early 997, 986/987 Boxster)

The intermediate shaft bearing in M96 and M97 flat-six engines, used in many roughly 1997 to 2008 911, Boxster and Cayman models, can wear and fail with little warning, potentially destroying the engine. Warning signs include metal in the oil filter and a rattle near the rear of the engine. We inspect the filter, discuss risk honestly and perform upgraded bearing retrofits, often alongside a clutch job.

Cylinder Bore Scoring

Some M96, M97 and early Cayenne V8 engines can develop scoring on the cylinder walls, showing up as a ticking or knocking noise, increased oil consumption, blue smoke or a sooty tailpipe on one bank. It tends to affect higher-mileage engines and varies by model/engine. We perform borescope inspections, compression and leak-down tests and a careful oil analysis before recommending any repair.

Cayenne V8 Coolant Pipe Leaks

Roughly 2003 to 2010 Cayenne V8 models used plastic coolant pipes in the valley under the intake manifold that can crack or separate with heat and age. Symptoms include a sweet coolant smell, unexplained coolant loss and overheating. We remove the intake, replace the original pipes with upgraded aluminum versions, and inspect the water pump and thermostat while everything is accessible.

Rear Main Seal Oil Leaks

Oil dripping between the engine and transmission is a well-known trait of M96 and M97 engines and some later models. A small seep is often monitored, but a steady drip can contaminate the clutch. We clean and confirm the source, since the IMS flange and other seals can leak in the same area, then replace the seal, often combined with clutch or IMS service.

Air-Oil Separator Failure

A failing air-oil separator (AOS) can cause a big cloud of white or blue smoke at startup, a rough idle, a whistle, check engine lights or oil being pulled into the intake. It is common on 996, 997, Boxster, Cayman and Cayenne engines as they age. We test crankcase vacuum, inspect the intake for oil and replace the separator and related hoses.

Water Pump and Thermostat Failures

Water pumps in many Porsche engines wear over time, and some older designs use plastic impellers that can break apart. Look for coolant drips near the pulley, a low coolant warning or rising temperatures in traffic. Because overheating is so damaging on these engines, we often recommend replacing the water pump and thermostat proactively, around 60,000 miles or so, varying by model/engine.
