Expert Nissan maintenance and repair from ASE-certified technicians at ExperTec Automotive Costa Mesa.

If you drive a Nissan in Costa Mesa, odds are it is a Rogue, Altima or Sentra doing the daily shuttle up and down Newport Blvd. Short errands to South Coast Plaza and quick runs to Newport Beach rarely let the engine or CVT fully warm up, which is why consistent maintenance matters more than mileage alone suggests.
ExperTec Automotive’s ASE-certified technicians know the Nissan lineup inside and out, from the Kicks and Versa to the Pathfinder, Murano, Frontier and the electric Leaf. We pair dealer-level scan tools with OEM-quality parts, so CVT fluid services, brake work and diagnostics are handled with the same care you would expect anywhere else, often for less.
Coastal salt air near the 55 and the OC Fair grounds can work on brake hardware and exhaust components, so we check them every visit. With 30+ years in Orange County, 10 years running as OC’s best auto repair and a 3yr/36k nationwide warranty, Costa Mesa Nissan owners get real expertise close to home.
Nissan publishes two maintenance schedules in each owner’s manual: Schedule 1 for severe or premium-care driving (short trips, stop-and-go traffic, extreme heat, towing, dusty conditions) and Schedule 2 for normal driving. On most modern Nissans with synthetic 0W-20 oil, Schedule 2 calls for oil and filter changes around every 5,000 miles or 6 months, while Schedule 1 shortens several inspections and adds more frequent CVT fluid checks; intervals vary by model/engine. Many models also have a maintenance reminder in the driver information display that counts down to the next oil change based on the interval you or the shop set. Orange County traffic and heat usually put local drivers on Schedule 1.
Upon completion of the standard maintenance tasks we provide an additional 30-point inspection to make sure that all components in your Nissan are up to date and working well.
~5,000 miles or 6 months (Schedule 2, normal use)
~30,000 / 60,000 miles (varies by model/engine)
At ExperTec Automotive, we’ve been repairing Nissan vehicles in Orange County for over 30 years. Even well-built Nissan models develop specific problems as they age, and 55 Freeway commutes and coastal salt air add to the wear. Our Costa Mesa technicians diagnose these issues quickly, follow Nissan factory repair procedures and use quality parts you can trust.
Nissan’s Jatco CVT is the most widely reported concern across the Rogue, Altima, Sentra, Versa, Murano and earlier Pathfinder. Symptoms include judder from a stop, a droning whine, hesitation and a reduced-power mode after overheating. We scan CVT data, check fluid condition, perform fluid service and judder relearns where appropriate, and give you an honest repair-or-replace assessment if internal wear is present.
On roughly 2005 to 2010 Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra models, the transmission cooler inside the radiator could fail and let coolant mix with automatic transmission fluid, often called “strawberry milkshake.” It causes shifting problems and can ruin the transmission. We inspect fluid condition, replace aging original radiators proactively or bypass the internal cooler with an external unit.
The 4.0L V6 in older Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra trucks is known for wear of the timing chain guides and tensioners, and some QR25DE four-cylinders show similar chain noise at high mileage. Look for a whine or rattle on startup and cam or crank correlation codes. We confirm with scan data and inspection and replace the guides, tensioners and chains as a set.
The 5.6L V8 in the Titan and Armada, along with some VQ-series V6 engines, is known for cracked exhaust manifolds or broken manifold studs. The telltale sign is a ticking noise when cold that fades as the engine warms, sometimes with an exhaust smell. We inspect the manifolds and studs, extract broken hardware and install new manifolds and gaskets.
Earlier QR25DE and VQ35DE engines in the Altima, Sentra, Maxima and Murano were known for pre-catalytic converter breakdown, which can cause rattling, reduced power and, in some cases, engine damage from ingested debris. Misfires and oil consumption speed up converter wear. We diagnose the root cause first, then install California-compliant converters so your Nissan passes smog.
Warm air from the vents is a common complaint on the Rogue, Altima and Sentra, often caused by a failing compressor or clutch, a leaking condenser or a faulty cooling fan. Summer heat and long idling expose weak A/C systems quickly. We pressure-test and leak-check the system, repair the actual failure and recharge to the exact factory refrigerant specification.

For most Orange County drivers, yes. Heat and stop-and-go traffic put many owners on Nissan’s severe Schedule 1, and fresh Nissan-spec CVT fluid at reasonable intervals, often around 25,000 to 30,000 miles, is one of the best ways to protect the transmission.
