Expert Mitsubishi maintenance and repair from ASE-certified technicians at ExperTec Automotive Costa Mesa.

Mitsubishi owners in Costa Mesa tend to put on a lot of small miles: a run down Newport Blvd to the beach, a stop at South Coast Plaza, a quick hop onto the 55. That stop-and-go pattern is exactly where an Outlander, Eclipse Cross or Outlander Sport benefits from a shop that actually knows how these vehicles are built.
At ExperTec Automotive, our ASE-certified technicians service Mitsubishi models every week, from the three-row Outlander and the Outlander PHEV plug-in hybrid to the fuel-sipping Mirage and the Lancers still going strong around town. We use dealer-level scan tools to read Mitsubishi-specific modules and OEM-quality parts on every repair.
Salt air drifting in from the coast is hard on brake hardware and underbody components, so we look closely at those areas during every visit. With 30+ years in Orange County, a decade of being voted OC’s best auto repair and a 3yr/36k nationwide warranty, your Mitsubishi is in good hands near the OC Fair grounds.
Mitsubishi uses a fixed, mileage-and-time based maintenance schedule rather than an oil life algorithm, and most modern models such as the Outlander, Eclipse Cross and Mirage display a service reminder in the instrument cluster when an interval comes due. Under normal driving, oil and filter changes generally fall around every 7,500 miles or 12 months, while the severe-service schedule (short trips, heavy traffic, high heat, towing or dusty roads) shortens that to roughly every 3,750 to 5,000 miles; exact intervals vary by model/engine. Larger services at about 30,000 and 60,000 miles add filters, fluid inspections and CVT checks, and the Outlander PHEV adds hybrid system and charging inspections. Most Orange County driving fits the severe schedule, so we usually recommend it.
Upon completion of the standard maintenance tasks we provide an additional 30-point inspection to make sure that all components in your Mitsubishi are up to date and working well.

At ExperTec Automotive, we’ve been repairing Mitsubishi vehicles in Orange County for over 30 years. Even well-built Mitsubishi models develop specific problems as they age, and 55 Freeway commutes and coastal salt air add to the wear. Our Costa Mesa technicians diagnose these issues quickly, follow Mitsubishi factory repair procedures and use quality parts you can trust.
Many Outlander, Outlander Sport, Eclipse Cross, Lancer and Mirage models use a Jatco-supplied CVT. Owners report shudder from a stop, a rising whine, slipping or a reduced-power mode after long climbs or heavy heat. We scan transmission data, check fluid condition and level, perform fluid service and software relearns when appropriate, and give you an honest read on whether repair or replacement makes sense.
The Outlander PHEV is generally robust, but owners report charging errors, reduced EV range and warning lights that often trace back to a weak 12V auxiliary battery or charging connection problems. We test the 12V battery, inspect the charge port and onboard charging components, review hybrid battery data with dealer-level scan tools and confirm the system is working before you leave.
Weak or warm air from the vents is a common complaint on Outlander and Outlander Sport models, especially in summer heat. Causes include compressor or clutch wear, a leaking or damaged condenser and low refrigerant from slow leaks. We pressure-test the system, use dye or electronic leak detection, repair the actual failure and recharge to specification instead of simply topping it off.
Older Mitsubishi V6 engines, including the 3.0L in earlier Outlanders and the 3.8L in the Endeavor and Galant, use a timing belt rather than a chain. These are interference engines, so a snapped belt can cause serious internal damage. Replacement intervals vary by model/engine, typically around 60,000 to 100,000 miles. We replace the belt with the tensioner, idlers and usually the water pump.
A knock over speed bumps or a loose feel in turns often points to worn front sway bar links, control arm bushings or strut mounts on the Outlander, Outlander Sport and Eclipse Cross. Mileage varies by model and driving style. We road-test to reproduce the noise, inspect every joint on the lift, replace worn parts with OEM-quality components and recommend an alignment when needed.
The 2.0L and 2.4L four-cylinder engines found in many Mitsubishi models can develop oil seepage from the valve cover gasket, spark plug tube seals or timing cover as they age, often noticed as a burning oil smell or residue around the engine. We clean and dye-trace the leak to its true source, then reseal it so the problem does not return.
