Expert Mazda maintenance and repair from ASE-certified technicians at ExperTec Automotive Costa Mesa.

Mazda builds cars for people who like to drive, and Costa Mesa has plenty of them: a Mazda3 darting through Newport Blvd traffic, a CX-5 loaded for a trip to Newport Beach, or an MX-5 Miata enjoying the coastal air. ExperTec Automotive at 1934 Newport Blvd keeps them feeling sharp.
The short hops to South Coast Plaza and the OC Fair grounds that fill a Costa Mesa week rarely let an engine reach full temperature, so we often recommend Mazda’s fixed maintenance schedule over the flexible one. Our technicians also keep an eye on salt-air wear on brakes, suspension links and battery terminals.
ExperTec has served Orange County for more than 30 years with ASE-certified technicians, dealer-level scan tools and OEM-quality parts. Voted OC’s best auto repair 10 years in a row, we back every repair with a 3-year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty, giving Mazda owners a trusted local alternative.
Mazda offers two maintenance schedules. The Flexible schedule, for normal driving, uses a maintenance reminder you set in the vehicle and calls for an oil and filter change about every 7,500 to 10,000 miles or 12 months, depending on model year and engine. The Fixed schedule is meant for severe conditions like frequent short trips, extended idling, stop-and-go traffic, dusty roads, towing or high heat, and shortens oil changes to roughly every 5,000 miles. Both schedules add tire rotations, filter replacements, brake fluid and coolant at set milestones. Many Orange County drivers are best served by the Fixed schedule.
Upon completion of the standard maintenance tasks we provide an additional 30-point inspection to make sure that all components in your Mazda are up to date and working well.

At ExperTec Automotive, we’ve been repairing Mazda vehicles in Orange County for over 30 years. Even well-built Mazda models develop specific problems as they age, and 55 Freeway commutes and coastal salt air add to the wear. Our Costa Mesa technicians diagnose these issues quickly, follow Mazda factory repair procedures and use quality parts you can trust.
The 3.7L V6 in the 2007 to 2015 CX-9 uses a water pump driven by the timing chain inside the engine. When its seal fails, coolant can mix with the oil and cause serious engine damage, sometimes with little warning. Low coolant or milky oil are red flags. We pressure test the system and replace the pump along with the timing components.
The 2.3L direct-injected turbo engine in the CX-7, Mazdaspeed3 and Mazdaspeed6 is known for timing chain and VVT actuator wear, turbocharger failure and intake valve carbon buildup. Rattles on startup, smoke or a loss of boost are typical symptoms. Mileage varies by model/engine. We diagnose with dealer-level scan tools and boost testing.
Many Mazda Connect touchscreens from around 2014 to 2018, in models like the Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-3 and CX-5, are widely reported for phantom inputs, freezing, random reboots and Bluetooth dropouts. Heat can make it worse. We check software versions, perform updates where available and diagnose or replace the display or control unit when necessary.
Some Mazda models with Smart City Brake Support or Smart Brake Support have been reported to brake unexpectedly or show warnings when the sensors are dirty, misaligned or faulty. A dusty windshield in front of the sensor is a common factor. We clean and inspect the sensors, check for updates and perform calibration after any windshield replacement.
The RX-8 rotary engine is known for apex seal wear and low compression, which leads to hard hot starts, rough idle and power loss. Short trips that shut the engine off cold can flood it, and the engine uses oil by design. We perform a rotary-specific compression test, check ignition coils and plugs and explain your options.
Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 models are commonly reported for worn engine and transmission mounts that let excess vibration into the cabin, especially at idle in drive or when accelerating from a stop. Clunks when shifting are another clue. We inspect each mount for cracks or collapse and replace them with OEM-quality parts.

If most of your driving is short trips, stop-and-go freeway traffic, heat or dust, Mazda’s Fixed schedule with roughly 5,000-mile oil changes is the better fit. Longer highway drives in mild weather are what the Flexible schedule was designed for, and we can help you choose.
