Expert Land Rover maintenance and repair from ASE-certified technicians at ExperTec Automotive Costa Mesa.

A Range Rover Sport cruising Newport Blvd or a Defender headed for the beach is a familiar sight in Costa Mesa. Land Rovers are built for serious terrain, but daily life here means short errands near South Coast Plaza and salt air rolling in from Newport Beach, and that takes its own toll on these complex SUVs.
ExperTec Automotive at 1934 Newport Blvd has served Orange County for more than 30 years. Our ASE-certified technicians work on Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar, Evoque, Discovery and Defender models, and we use dealer-level scan tools to read the many modules that run air suspension, Terrain Response and the infotainment system.
We install OEM-quality parts and back our work with a 3-year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty. Voted OC’s best auto repair 10 years in a row, we explain what your Land Rover needs now, what can wait, and why, so you can keep enjoying the drive without the guesswork.
Most modern Land Rovers use a service interval indicator in the instrument cluster that counts down to the next scheduled service, generally about once a year or every ~10,000 to 16,000 miles depending on model, engine and model year. Each visit covers an oil and filter change plus a multi-point inspection, while items such as brake fluid, air filters, spark plugs, coolant and transfer case or differential fluids come due at set time or mileage milestones. Hot inland driving, short trips and towing count as severe use, so we often suggest checking fluids and the air suspension between indicated services.
Upon completion of the standard maintenance tasks we provide an additional 30-point inspection to make sure that all components in your Land Rover are up to date and working well.

At ExperTec Automotive, we’ve been repairing Land Rover vehicles in Orange County for over 30 years. Even well-built Land Rover models develop specific problems as they age, and 55 Freeway commutes and coastal salt air add to the wear. Our Costa Mesa technicians diagnose these issues quickly, follow Land Rover factory repair procedures and use quality parts you can trust.
Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery and older LR3/LR4 models are widely known for air suspension trouble as they age: leaking air springs, a worn compressor, or a faulty valve block. You may see the vehicle sitting low after parking, a suspension fault message or a compressor that runs constantly. We pinpoint leaks, test the compressor and replace only the failed parts.
Land Rover engines, including the supercharged 3.0L V6 and 5.0L V8 and the 2.0L Ingenium, rely on plastic coolant pipes, housings and water pumps that can crack or seep with heat cycles. Low coolant warnings, a sweet smell or overheating in summer traffic are common clues. We pressure test the system and replace leaking components before they cause engine damage.
Some earlier 5.0L V8 engines, both naturally aspirated and supercharged, are known for timing chain guide and tensioner wear, typically showing as a rattle on cold start and timing-related check engine codes. Mileage varies by model/engine. We confirm the diagnosis with dealer-level scan data and cam/crank correlation readings and perform the repair with OEM-quality parts.
The 2.0L Ingenium engine used in models like the Discovery Sport, Evoque and Velar has been widely reported for timing chain stretch, sometimes linked to stretched oil change intervals. Signs include a rattle, rough running and timing correlation codes. We check chain stretch values with a scan tool and recommend shorter oil change intervals afterward.
Valve cover gaskets, timing covers, oil cooler seals and rear main seals are common leak points on many Land Rover engines as they age. Leaking oil can drip onto hot exhaust parts, causing smoke and a burning smell, especially in stop-and-go traffic. We clean, dye-test and trace the leak to its true source so you only pay for the repair you need.
Modern Land Rovers carry dozens of control modules, and a weak battery or a module that will not go to sleep can trigger warning lights, infotainment glitches, keyless entry problems or a no-start. Frequent short trips make it worse. We test the battery and charging system, measure parasitic draw and update or diagnose modules with dealer-level tools.
