Expert Jeep maintenance and repair from ASE-certified technicians at ExperTec Automotive Costa Mesa.

Costa Mesa Jeep owners split their time between Newport Boulevard errands and weekend escapes, whether that means a Wrangler with the top off headed to the beach or a Grand Cherokee loaded for the mountains. ExperTec Automotive at 1934 Newport Blvd has kept Jeeps trail-ready and street-smart for more than 30 years.
Salt air from Newport Beach works quickly on exposed Wrangler and Gladiator suspension hardware, steering joints and electrical connectors. Short trips to South Coast Plaza and the OC Fair grounds also mean oil rarely warms up fully, which is hard on the Pentastar V6 and Tigershark engines.
Our ASE-certified technicians use dealer-level scan tools, install OEM-quality parts and understand lifted and modified rigs as well as stock Cherokees and Compasses. Repairs are backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty, from the shop voted OC’s best auto repair ten years in a row.
Most modern Jeep models use an Oil Change Indicator that monitors engine conditions and displays an oil change message in the cluster when service is due, typically up to about 10,000 miles or 12 months on the 3.6 Pentastar with synthetic oil, varying by model/engine. Jeep’s schedule also calls for more frequent service under severe conditions, including off-road driving, dusty or sandy roads, towing and extended idling. Off-road use and water crossings also call for inspecting axle and transfer case fluids for contamination, so we combine the indicator with a check tailored to how you use your Jeep.
Upon completion of the standard maintenance tasks we provide an additional 30-point inspection to make sure that all components in your Jeep are up to date and working well.
~Per Oil Change Indicator, up to 10,000 miles or 12 months
~Every 4,000-5,000 miles or after hard trail use
At ExperTec Automotive, we’ve been repairing Jeep vehicles in Orange County for over 30 years. Even well-built Jeep models develop specific problems as they age, and 55 Freeway commutes and coastal salt air add to the wear. Our Costa Mesa technicians diagnose these issues quickly, follow Jeep factory repair procedures and use quality parts you can trust.
Wranglers and Gladiators with solid front axles can develop a violent steering shake after hitting a bump at speed, known as death wobble. Loose or worn track bars, tie rod ends, ball joints and steering dampers are common causes, and lifts and larger tires make it worse. We inspect the entire front end, tighten or replace worn parts and align.
The 3.6 Pentastar V6 in Wranglers, Grand Cherokees and Gladiators uses a plastic oil filter housing and oil cooler that can crack and leak oil or coolant. Look for oil drips at the back of the engine, a burning smell or low coolant. We replace the housing with an updated design and check for cross-contamination.
Cherokees, Renegades and Compasses with the 9-speed automatic were widely reported for harsh or delayed shifts, hesitation and clunky engagement, varying by model year. Software updates often help. We scan for codes, review adaptive data, check fluid level, apply available updates with dealer-level tools and perform an adaptive relearn so shifts feel smoother.
The 2.4L Tigershark four-cylinder in ~2014-2019 Cherokees, Renegades and Compasses is widely reported for excessive oil consumption, sometimes leading to low oil warnings and engine damage. We perform an oil consumption test, inspect plugs and rings, check for related software updates and give you clear, honest advice on the best repair path.
Grand Cherokees with Quadra-Lift air suspension can develop leaking air springs, failing compressors or height sensor faults, leaving the vehicle sagging or stuck at one height with warning messages. We scan the suspension module, leak-test the air springs and lines, and replace failed components with OEM-quality parts, then recalibrate ride height.
Many ~2011-2013 Grand Cherokees were reported for totally integrated power module problems, causing no-starts, a fuel pump that will not shut off or erratic lights and horn. We test the module and fuel pump relay with dealer-level scan tools, repair or replace the module, and verify every circuit it controls.
