Expert Volvo Service from Certified Technicians

A V90 Cross Country loaded with beach gear on PCH, or an XC40 parked by Huntington Central Park, is a common sight in Surf City. Our Talbert Ave shop near Gothard helps keep those Volvos as safe and comfortable as the day they were new.

Salt air and sand wear on brakes, suspension bushings, wheel bearings and cabin air filters, and moisture can creep into electrical connectors. Our ASE-certified technicians check all of these during every service, along with the items that matter most on modern Volvos, such as oil consumption on Drive-E engines, coolant system condition and air suspension on the XC90. Commuters on the 405 in a T8 Recharge plug-in hybrid get full hybrid diagnostics too.

Whether you shop at Bella Terra or live by the beach, ExperTec Automotive uses dealer-level scan tools and OEM-quality parts, backed by a 3yr/36k nationwide warranty. We have 30+ years in Orange County and have been voted OC’s best auto repair 10 years in a row.

Volvo Regular Maintenance

Modern Volvos follow a fixed schedule of numbered services about every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first, and the driver display shows a service reminder as each interval approaches. Every visit includes an oil and filter change with Volvo-approved synthetic oil and a multipoint inspection, while larger services add items like engine and cabin air filters, brake fluid, spark plugs and drive belt inspection at specific mileage steps; exact intervals vary by model/engine. Volvo considers automatic transmission fluid long-life, but many independent shops, including ours, recommend inspecting or changing it at higher mileage, especially in heat. T8 plug-in hybrids follow the same schedule plus hybrid system checks, and fully electric models follow a lighter time-based schedule.

Factory Guideline Maintenance Schedules

Upon completion of the standard maintenance tasks we provide an additional 30-point inspection to make sure that all components in your Volvo are up to date and working well.

Common Volvo Issues We See in Huntington Beach — and How We Fix Them

At ExperTec Automotive, we’ve been repairing Volvo vehicles in Orange County for over 30 years. Even well-built Volvo models develop specific problems as they age, and PCH beach traffic, 405 commutes and salt air add to the wear. Our Huntington Beach technicians diagnose these issues quickly, follow Volvo factory repair procedures and use quality parts you can trust.

XC90 Air Suspension Faults

Many 2016 and newer XC90s with optional air suspension can develop air spring leaks, compressor failures or ride height sensor faults. Symptoms include a corner sitting low after parking, a compressor running often or suspension warning messages. We perform leak testing, read suspension data with dealer-level scan tools, replace the failed spring, compressor or sensor and calibrate ride height.

T8 Plug-In Hybrid and 12V Battery Faults

Volvo T8 Recharge plug-in hybrids can display charging errors, reduced electric range or a range of warning lights. Many of these problems trace back to a weak 12V or auxiliary battery, charging cable or onboard charger issues or software that needs updating. We test both 12V batteries, read hybrid system data with dealer-level scan tools and verify charging before you leave.

Oil Consumption on Drive-E Engines

Some 2.0L Drive-E four-cylinder engines, used in many roughly 2015 to 2019 T5 and T6 models such as the XC60, XC90, S60 and V60, were widely reported to burn oil between services due to piston ring issues. Watch for low oil warnings or the need to top off often. We perform a documented oil consumption test, inspect the PCV system and explain repair options.

Coolant Expansion Tank Cracks

The plastic coolant expansion tank on many Volvos can crack or leak at its seams or cap with age and heat cycles, causing slow coolant loss, a sweet smell after driving or a low coolant warning. Ignoring it can lead to overheating. We pressure-test the cooling system, replace the tank and cap with OEM-quality parts and check hoses and the water pump while we are there.

Timing Belt on Five-Cylinder Engines

Volvo’s older five-cylinder engines, used in models such as the S60, V70, XC70 and XC90 through roughly the mid-2010s, use a timing belt that must be replaced on a mileage and age schedule, often around 100,000 miles or 10 years, varying by model/engine. Because these are interference engines, a broken belt causes major damage. We replace the belt, tensioner, idler and water pump together.

Angle Gear Leaks and Failure on AWD Models

Older all-wheel-drive Volvos, including the XC90, XC70, S60 and V70, use an angle gear, or bevel gear, to send power to the rear wheels. It runs hot and its fluid is rarely changed, which can lead to leaks, worn seals and eventually failure that leaves only front-wheel drive. We inspect for leaks, service the angle gear fluid and replace failed units.

Huntington Beach Volvo Repair & Maintenance FAQs

Where is ExperTec Automotive Huntington Beach located?

Our Huntington Beach shop is at 7680 Talbert Ave, Huntington Beach, CA 92648. Call (714) 848-9222 or book online.

What are your hours in Huntington Beach?

Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM and Saturday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. We are closed on Sunday.

My Volvo’s transmission fluid is called “lifetime” fluid. Should it still be changed?

For most Orange County drivers we recommend it. Heat and stop-and-go traffic wear transmission fluid faster than ideal conditions, and a fluid exchange at higher mileage, often somewhere around 60,000 miles, is inexpensive protection for a costly component.

Is your work guaranteed?

Yes. Every repair includes a 3 Year / 36,000 Mile Nationwide Warranty plus 12 Month / 12,000 Mile Roadside Assistance.
