Voted #1 Best of Orange County 2026 - 10 years in a row

Expert Porsche Service from Certified Technicians

Few drives in Southern California suit a Porsche like PCH through Huntington Beach, even if summer beach traffic sometimes slows it to a crawl. Our Talbert Ave shop near Gothard looks after the 911s, Boxsters, Caymans and Cayennes that call Surf City home.

Coastal living brings salt air and fine sand that settle into brake calipers, wheel bearings, intake filters and convertible top drains, so our ASE-certified technicians check those areas closely. We also know the history of older models, from IMS bearing and rear main seal concerns on the 996 and early 997 and 986 Boxster to air-oil separator failures, and we will tell you plainly what matters and what does not.

Daily 405 commuters in a Macan or Panamera get the same care as weekend drivers heading from Bella Terra to Huntington Central Park. ExperTec Automotive uses dealer-level scan tools and OEM-quality parts, and every repair carries our 3yr/36k nationwide warranty.

Porsche Regular Maintenance

Porsche uses fixed maintenance intervals based on mileage and time, and the instrument cluster displays a service indicator when work is due. For most recent US models, an oil change is called for about every 10,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first, and the schedule alternates between an Intermediate Maintenance and a more comprehensive Maintenance service at regular mileage steps, typically around 20,000 and 40,000 miles; exact intervals vary by model/engine. Time-based items stand apart from mileage: brake fluid is due about every 2 years, and spark plugs, filters and PDK fluid follow their own longer intervals. Electric models like the Taycan follow a mostly time-based inspection schedule. Many enthusiasts shorten oil intervals for track use or lots of short trips.

Factory Guideline Maintenance Schedules

Upon completion of the standard maintenance tasks we provide an additional 30-point inspection to make sure that all components in your Porsche are up to date and working well.

Common Porsche Issues We See in Huntington Beach — and How We Fix Them

At ExperTec Automotive, we’ve been repairing Porsche vehicles in Orange County for over 30 years. Even well-built Porsche models develop specific problems as they age, and PCH beach traffic, 405 commutes and salt air add to the wear. Our Huntington Beach technicians diagnose these issues quickly, follow Porsche factory repair procedures and use quality parts you can trust.

Air Suspension Leaks

The Cayenne, Panamera and some Macan models use optional air suspension that can develop leaks in air struts, lines or valve blocks, or wear out the compressor. Symptoms include a corner sitting low after parking, a compressor running often and suspension warnings. We perform leak testing, diagnose with dealer-level scan tools and replace the failed strut, compressor or relay, then calibrate ride height.

Cayenne Transfer Case and Driveshaft

Earlier Cayenne models, especially roughly 2003 to 2010, are known for transfer case problems that cause a clunk, shudder or vibration during turns and all-wheel-drive warnings, plus driveshaft center support bearing failure causing vibration and a hum at speed. We diagnose with road tests and scan data and replace the transfer case or driveshaft center bearing as needed.

IMS Bearing Failure (996, Early 997, 986/987 Boxster)

The intermediate shaft bearing in M96 and M97 flat-six engines, used in many roughly 1997 to 2008 911, Boxster and Cayman models, can wear and fail with little warning, potentially destroying the engine. Warning signs include metal in the oil filter and a rattle near the rear of the engine. We inspect the filter, discuss risk honestly and perform upgraded bearing retrofits, often alongside a clutch job.

Cylinder Bore Scoring

Some M96, M97 and early Cayenne V8 engines can develop scoring on the cylinder walls, showing up as a ticking or knocking noise, increased oil consumption, blue smoke or a sooty tailpipe on one bank. It tends to affect higher-mileage engines and varies by model/engine. We perform borescope inspections, compression and leak-down tests and a careful oil analysis before recommending any repair.

Air-Oil Separator Failure

A failing air-oil separator (AOS) can cause a big cloud of white or blue smoke at startup, a rough idle, a whistle, check engine lights or oil being pulled into the intake. It is common on 996, 997, Boxster, Cayman and Cayenne engines as they age. We test crankcase vacuum, inspect the intake for oil and replace the separator and related hoses.

Water Pump and Thermostat Failures

Water pumps in many Porsche engines wear over time, and some older designs use plastic impellers that can break apart. Look for coolant drips near the pulley, a low coolant warning or rising temperatures in traffic. Because overheating is so damaging on these engines, we often recommend replacing the water pump and thermostat proactively, around 60,000 miles or so, varying by model/engine.
