Expert Chevrolet maintenance and repair from ASE-certified technicians at ExperTec Automotive Costa Mesa.

Chevy is everywhere in Costa Mesa, from contractors’ Silverados on Newport Blvd to Equinox crossovers in the South Coast Plaza parking structures and the odd Camaro heading toward Newport Beach. ExperTec Automotive at 1934 Newport Blvd services all of them.
Local driving is a mix of short errands and quick hops on the 55, which can be harder on engine oil and batteries than long highway runs, and the coastal air near Newport speeds up rust on brake parts and exhaust hardware. Our ASE-certified technicians follow your Oil Life Monitor and inspect for corrosion at every visit.
With dealer-level scan tools and OEM-quality parts, we handle everything from oil service on a Malibu to lifter repairs on a Tahoe. Each repair is backed by a 3-year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty, and more than 30 years in Orange County have earned us OC’s best auto repair title 10 years in a row.
Chevrolet gas models use the GM Oil Life Monitor, which tracks engine revolutions, operating temperature and driving conditions to estimate when the oil is worn out, rather than using a fixed mileage. Changes typically come up somewhere around 5,000 to 7,500 miles, sooner with towing, idling, short trips or heat, and GM calls for at least one change a year. The monitor covers only engine oil, so tire rotations, air filters, transmission fluid, spark plugs and coolant follow the separate schedule in your owner’s manual, with severe-use intervals for trucks that tow or haul. We use dexos-approved oil and reset the monitor after service.
Upon completion of the standard maintenance tasks we provide an additional 30-point inspection to make sure that all components in your Chevrolet are up to date and working well.

At ExperTec Automotive, we’ve been repairing Chevrolet vehicles in Orange County for over 30 years. Even well-built Chevrolet models develop specific problems as they age, and 55 Freeway commutes and coastal salt air add to the wear. Our Costa Mesa technicians diagnose these issues quickly, follow Chevrolet factory repair procedures and use quality parts you can trust.
Silverados, Tahoes and Suburbans with the 5.3L or 6.2L V8 and cylinder deactivation (AFM or DFM) are known for lifter failures, showing up as a ticking noise, misfire codes or a rough-running engine. A collapsed lifter can damage the camshaft. We pinpoint the affected cylinders with dealer-level diagnostics and replace lifters, guides and related parts, checking the cam carefully.
Equinox models from roughly 2010 to 2017 with the 2.4L four-cylinder became known for burning oil because of piston ring and PCV design. Low oil can lead to timing chain wear and engine damage. We run an oil consumption test, inspect spark plugs and the PCV system, then explain your options, which can include updated parts or more involved engine repair.
The 1.4L turbo engine in the Cruze, Sonic and Trax is known for coolant leaks from the water pump, thermostat housing and turbo coolant lines, plus a valve cover with an integrated PCV diaphragm that can fail and cause a whistle, rough idle and oil leaks. We pressure-test cooling and crankcase systems and replace failed parts with updated designs.
Earlier Traverse, Equinox and Camaro models with the 3.6L V6, particularly late 2000s to early 2010s, are known for timing chain stretch, often accelerated by long oil change intervals. A check engine light with cam and crank correlation codes is the usual warning. We verify stretch with live data and replace chains, guides and tensioners together.
Many mid-to-late 2010s Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban, Colorado and Camaro models with the 8-speed automatic are known for a shudder or vibration at steady speeds, often traced to the torque converter clutch and fluid. Many vehicles improve with a fluid exchange using updated fluid. We confirm the symptom on a road test with live data and recommend the right fix.
Malibu, Traverse, Blazer and some other Chevy models are known for a Shift to Park message that appears even when the shifter is already in Park, sometimes preventing the vehicle from shutting off. The cause is often a worn switch inside the shifter assembly. We confirm the fault with dealer-level diagnostics and repair or replace the shifter components as needed.

There is no guaranteed prevention, but regular oil changes with dexos-approved oil in the correct viscosity help, and catching a tick or misfire code early can limit damage. If you hear a new ticking noise, have it checked before the camshaft is affected.
