Expert Audi maintenance and repair from ASE-certified technicians at ExperTec Automotive Costa Mesa.

An Audi is built for precision, and it deserves a shop that works the same way. ExperTec Automotive at 1934 Newport Blvd in Costa Mesa services A4, A6, Q5 and Q7 models with dealer-level scan tools, so we can read the same fault data and run the same adaptations an Audi dealer would.
Costa Mesa Audis split their time between short hops to South Coast Plaza and quick trips down to Newport Beach. That kind of driving rarely lets turbocharged, direct-injection engines get fully hot, which encourages carbon deposits and moisture in the oil. Salt air near the coast also adds to brake and underbody wear, and we check for both at every service.
Our ASE-certified technicians bring 30+ years of Orange County experience, OEM-quality parts and a 3-year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty to every job, which is why locals have voted us OC’s best auto repair 10 years in a row.
Audi uses fixed time-and-distance service intervals tracked by the service interval display in the instrument cluster. For most recent US models, an oil change and inspection is due about every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first, with additional items added at longer milestones, such as cabin and engine air filters, spark plugs and S tronic or automatic transmission fluid where specified, plus brake fluid every two years regardless of mileage. Turbocharged direct-injection engines are sensitive to oil quality, so we use oil meeting the correct VW specification for your engine (such as 502 00, 504 00 or 508 00) and reset the display after every service.
Upon completion of the standard maintenance tasks we provide an additional 30-point inspection to make sure that all components in your Audi are up to date and working well.

At ExperTec Automotive, we’ve been repairing Audi vehicles in Orange County for over 30 years. Even well-built Audi models develop specific problems as they age, and 55 Freeway commutes and coastal salt air add to the wear. Our Costa Mesa technicians diagnose these issues quickly, follow Audi factory repair procedures and use quality parts you can trust.
Audi’s direct-injection FSI and TFSI engines, including the 2.0T and 3.0T, spray fuel straight into the cylinder, so nothing washes deposits off the intake valves. Over time, carbon can cause rough idle, cold-start misfires and lost power, varying by model/engine and driving habits. We confirm buildup with misfire data and a borescope, then clean the valves with media blasting and reset fuel trims.
Many roughly 2009 to 2012 Audis with the 2.0T engine, including A4, A5 and Q5 models, became known for excessive oil consumption caused by piston ring design. Owners may add a quart every 1,000 to 2,000 miles or see oil warnings between services. We run a monitored consumption test, inspect spark plugs and compression, and explain repair options from rings to related PCV fixes.
Early versions of the 2.0T engine used a timing chain tensioner that could fail, allowing the chain to jump teeth and seriously damage the engine. A brief rattle on cold start can be an early warning sign. We inspect the tensioner through the access port, check cam and crank correlation data and, when needed, replace the chain, guides and updated tensioner as one job.
Audi uses plastic water pumps and thermostat housings on many 2.0T and 3.0T engines, and they can crack or seep coolant with heat cycles. Watch for a sweet smell, pink crust near the front of the engine or a low coolant warning. We pressure-test the system, locate the leak and replace the housing or pump with OEM-quality parts before overheating causes bigger damage.
A failed PCV valve or oil separator is a common Audi problem on 2.0T and 3.0T engines. Symptoms include a whistling or howling noise at idle, rough running, lean codes, oil leaks from pressurized seals and higher oil consumption. We smoke-test and pressure-check the crankcase, confirm the failure with live data and replace the separator or PCV assembly with an updated part.
Misfires from failing ignition coils or worn plugs are among the most frequent reasons an Audi check engine light comes on, especially on turbocharged engines that work plugs hard. You may feel stumbling, shaking or reduced power. We read misfire counters per cylinder, swap-test coils to confirm the fault and replace plugs and coils with the correct heat range and specification.

On direct-injection Audi engines, carbon buildup on the intake valves is a common cause of rough idle and misfires as mileage climbs. We only recommend cleaning when symptoms or a borescope inspection confirm significant buildup, not on a fixed schedule.
