Jose and Gary were absolutely fantastic! My car broke down while we were traveling, and it was a very stressful experience. I’m so thankful AAA recommended their shop. They were responsive, professional, and kept me updated throughout the entire repair process. I brought my car in today for both a scheduled service and an electrical repair. I appreciate that the repair was completed on time, and overall I am satisfied with the quality of the work performed by the technicians.
However, I would like to provide some feedback regarding my experience at the front desk. When I spoke with one of the receptionists, Jose (if I recall his name correctly), I felt that he was not as courteous and welcoming as I expected. He appeared very stressed and overly serious during our interaction, which made me feel somewhat uncomfortable as a customer.
I understand that the workplace can be busy and demanding, and I do not intend this as a personal criticism. I simply wanted to share my experience in the hope that customer service interactions can be more friendly and approachable in the future.

Brought my car in for routine oil change. Scheduling the service was fast, easy, and done entirely online. During the inspection they found that my brake pads and rotors were also in need of replacement. Thankfully I was able to schedule a morning appointment soon after and have my car safely back on the road. Not only were they able to get me a Lyft to/from work. But they gave a fair quote and really went above and beyond to make sure my car would have many years safely on the road. Great shop that's very thorough and cares about their customers. I will continue to bring my car here and future cars for their great service

My husband has been waiting almost three weeks to get his car back. He drives a FIAT. They have not called to give him any updates only to let him know that they are waiting on a part to fix his car. A part that was to be delivered on Monday. They gave him a loner car to use and are now demanding it back. He will return the loner car when his car is done being repaired. I hope that it is repaired correctly. I took my Lexus in for breaks and had to return three times. I am now going to the Expertec in Huntington Beach and have not had any issues with service. I am very disappointed in the horrendous service he has received at Costa Mesa.

I've been taking our company vehicles and my own cars to Expertec for many years now. Always helpful, always honest and always a fair price. They work expeditiously-- I've never had to leave my car overnight. I wouldn't have my car serviced anywhere else!

This was my first time using ExperTec Automotive. I had to have a DMV-requested vehicle safety inspection which they offered (and have good Yelp reviews), so I chose them. We keep coming back to Gary and his team because they’re just that good. When you find a precious thing you cling to it. Finding an honest group of mechanics that do great work is not all that easy to find but we’ve been coming here for years with multiple cars and they help us every time. They have worked with us offering suggestions and priorities of work to be done on the car as our budget allows. They’re not pushy, they’re informative. I highly recommend them for any service.

On November 3, 2025, I brought my 2010 Toyota Prius to ExperTec Automotive to remove a spinning lug nut on the driver’s front wheel. After spending approximately three hours on the job, the shop was unable to remove the lug nut. They charged me $222.18 for labor despite the fact that the issue was not resolved.
The invoice clearly states:
“One lug is spinning on the driver front. Spent 4 hours on it trying to remove it. Customer was informed that he could pay additional labor to keep at it, or pay for time already and pick it up.”
When I asked what it would take for completion the sales person said it could be $600-$800 more. After retrieving my vehicle, I was forced to solve the issue myself. Following advice to use cobalt drill bits, I was able to remove the lug nut completely in under 20 minutes. This proves that the shop’s failure and exorbitant time spent was due to improper tooling and technique, not the inherent difficulty of the job. The mechanic, a nice young man, acknowledged to me that his bits were dull and that new cobalt bits would have made the job successful. I felt for him and gave him the cobalt drill bits I bought wishing him future success.
Details of Interaction with Management:
After completing the repair myself, I returned to ExperTec to request a refund. The front‑office staff initially attempted to process one but their POS system failed. I then spoke with Gary McMann, the General Manager.
Mr. McMann stated that he had to pay his mechanic for the three hours worked and that “the progress [his mechanic] made was what made it possible for you to drill through in 19 minutes.” He went on further to say that they "had to get my car off their rack, it was taking too much time."
I disagreed with that assertion — their work did not help me. The lug nut issue was completely unresolved when I began. My own work and tooling, not theirs, achieved the result. Mr. McMann offered a 50 % refund ($111.09) as a compromise. I declined, as I believe paying any amount for an uncompleted and improperly executed repair is unjust.
Basis of Complaint
I was charged for non‑performance — the service I paid for (removal of the lug nut) was not completed.
ExperTec failed to use appropriate tools or techniques and the mechanic admitted their drill bits were too dull.
No value was provided; I had to research the problem, purchase the correct tools (cobalt drill bits), spend my own time, and complete the job myself.
The manager’s justification (“I have to pay my mechanic”) is not a valid reason to bill the customer for a failed attempt.
No written disclosure or estimate was provided stating that I would be charged full labor for an unsuccessful repair attempt.
Desired Resolution
I am requesting a full refund of $222.18 for non‑performance of work.
Alternatively, I request that the BAR review this shop’s billing and repair practices to ensure compliance with California’s standards of competent workmanship and fair dealing.

I have Finally found not my automotive repair shop! Not only competent and efficient and reasonable but very ethical and honest! That in itself is enough, but on top of it, they treat their customers like Royalty shuttle cars loaner Cars, real conversation, caring and warm! Exceedingly abundantly more than I could’ve ever asked for highly recommend!
I will tell you that I went to a BMW dealership in Irvine. They asked me to bring my car in for a recall, airbag recall and they include a free inspection with a video. The bill came out to $9500.! As it turns out, the video was not even my engine, which was so shocking to me that a reputable company like BMW, and a dealership could exercise such fraud! Be careful out there!

I never thought I’d be writing a review for an auto repair shop, but I am just so impressed with their level of customer service and honesty. Everyone there is so friendly and helpful. Even the driver, Mike, is great and gives the best service, and he will pick you up and drop you off. I was especially impressed with how thorough they are when they do an oil change, and how honest they are with you. Jose worked with me and was so incredibly patient and helpful. I really appreciate the amazing service, and that they don’t take advantage of you like other auto shops. Won’t be taking my car anywhere else but here!

Gary and the entire team were courteous, professional and extremely helpful. They diagnosed the problem quickly, quoted me a price, which was fair, before starting the work and completed everything in a timely manner.

Great work done on my truck. I was barley able to drive it in they were helpful and friendly during the write up. They fixed my truck the same day and it is running great at 194000 miles. They gave me a ride to work and offered to also pick me up when they were done. The complete work was clean and professional.

I came in to change my rotors and brake pads. Rodger made everything easy and was extremely helpful. I went in expecting to pay $1300 and left paying half because they told me that just the fronts had to be replaced. I don’t feel scammed and now it feels like I’m driving a brand new car.
